The owners of Noe Valley Bakery, who got their start at Il Fornaio, turn out a product that is truly the staff of life, full of fresh, natural ingredients and baked to absolute perfection. In addition to light-as-a-feather baguettes and the architecturally compelling Pain d'Epi, which looks like the over sized stalk of wheat for which it is named, find denser offerings with swirls of pesto, cheese or fresh fruit. The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere amid counters piled high with tempting edibles is friendly.
