• Russell Pritchard has run this home interior/art gallery/antique shop in the heart of Hayes Valley since before the neighborhood became filled with trendy boutiques, back when Hayes Valley was a bit shady and dangerous. Now the neighborhood is a mecca of unique, locally-owned specialty businesses with vegetable gardens and art installations. No matter what day one stops by, Russell is sure to be there. Zonal's motto is "Always repair, never restore," so all of the original paint and features of the antique American furniture and recovered signs and objects are maintained, giving the shop the feel of a rustic farmhouse mixed with contemporary San Franciscan style. The shop also features paintings, photography and mixed media by local artists, as well as modern couches and chairs. Look for the red door and the interesting tile mosaic on the sidewalk outside. Be sure to take a peek in the basement.
