Definitely check out Outside Lands music festival - August 12-14. http://www.sfoutsidelands.com/ Muse, Phish, Arcade Fire, The Black Keys and on and on...

Check individual venues for their lineups during those times for anything interesting to you. Here are a few: The Independent, The Fillmore, The Warfield, The Great American Music Hall, Greek Theater (Berkeley), The Paramount (Oakland), The Fox (Oakland). The Fox is my new personal favorite Bay Area music venue, and the Fillmore is worth going to at least once for the historic value.

The 3-day Outside Lands festival is one of the best events of the year if you're a music lover. It's in Golden Gate Park and it's glorious! A great way to see new, up-and-coming bands. Check out SF Weekly for concert listings and art events.
