I like Michael Mina as a place to eat. It is expensive. There is also a cafe called Mocca which I liked but I have heard some folks complain about their service. If it is a nice day you can sit outside at Cafe Mocca which makes it all worth it. Hope you have a great time on your visit.

Perhaps this recommendation will be considered too touristy; anyway, I have always taken visitors to Cheese Cake Factory on top of Macy's. Big portions of food and great view of the square.

It all depends on what you have a taste for really.
I recommend for French -Chez Papa Resto
and for Indian..Little Delhi.. both have really great food but make reservations for the Chez.

You are in a good place for dining...Scala Bistro in the Sir Francis Drake on Powell is excellent(Italian), Kuletto's on Powell is also good, Daily Grill is reasonable and good portions...on Geary near Powell. Michael Mina's in the Westin St. Francis is good but VERY expensive. There are Pubs..Johnny Foley's on O'Farrell, Lefty O'Doul's(on Geary near Powell), Les Joulins for food with Jazz(on Ellis) Grand Cafe in the Monaco Hotel(Geary & Taylor), Millenniem(Vegetarian) Geary @Jones. Hope that's helpful. There are many small restaurants to suit any taste. Dancing at the top of the Sir Francis Drake.
