What are some of the best "local", NON-touristy sights to see in SF?

I have lived here most of my 60+ years and i am still blown away by going to Fort Point and looking at the power and beauty of the Bay...as a local i see alot of tourists but I also realize that this place is cool and even i become a tourist in my own home town....after that i head to Tomaso's restraunt in North Beach...established in the 1920s; San Francisco Pizza with a family recipe from Naples...I definitely do not consider this a tourist place....expect to wait for a private booth or table.

I like taking visitors to the Mission District to some of my favorite taquerias there. In/near the Tenderloin (area just off Union Square which Mary mentioned), there is the best burger place in the city (Pearl's Deluxe Burgers). For the most authentic experience I would suggest just meeting up with locals.

Vermont Street between 20th and 22nd in Potrero Hill, more crooked than Lombard street.

the view from Twin Peaks really gives you a great sense of the geography of the city. another great viewpoint is from atop San Bruno Mountain just south of the city
