This small, full-service resort is easily the most comfortable and luxurious option in town. Set on a high ridge above the Macal River, it has magnificent views of the lazy river below and surrounding forests. The rooms are all spacious, modern, and smartly designed. The standard rooms all come with a private balcony or patio letting out on to gardens. I actually prefer them to the Regal suites, which are somewhat larger but lack the balcony. The plushest room here is a large second-floor master suite, with a private Jacuzzi tub on its large balcony.
The hotel has a pool, a lit tennis court, and convention and conference facilities. There are jungle trails, a small iguana farm, a riverside beach and swimming hole, and a medicinal plant trail. A host of guided hikes and tours are offered, both on the grounds and farther afield. There's also a modest gift shop and a good restaurant and bar with great views from its terrace. There is a small casino, as well as the popular Stork Club bar and lounge, both of which are equally popular with locals and guests.
