Located right on the edge of Rincón de la Vieja National Park, this lodge is centered on a 19th-century ranch house and a still-operational cattle-and-horse ranch. The best rooms here are located a short walk away from the old ranch house and lobby. These are in long rows of rooms enclosing a large lawn and garden area. They are all quite spacious and modern and come with a wide shared veranda. The older rooms are still clean and comfortable, but much more rustic in feel. In addition to the lodge's good-size pool, nearby creeks and rivers feature a couple of natural swimming holes. It isn't easy to get to the lodge, so plan to take all your meals here. Meals are buffet affairs, although you can opt out of the meal plan and go a la carte. This place does a brisk business as a day-tour destination for a variety of hotels and resorts around Guanacaste, and there's a cattle-car feel to the operation at times. See above for a description of their many tour offerings.
