El Gato Negro is the perfect place to while away some hours reading a good book and enjoying great freshly roasted coffee and bagels. This warm, inviting cafe has a long bar, leading to a giant coffee bean grinder, and attention-getting red walls that are adorned with local photos and paintings. But what really catches your attention here is the extensive book collection, which runs around half the room. Here you'll find everything from literary novels to airport page-turners to a valuable collection of Nicaraguan history books. Be warned, however: Books must be purchased before you can collapse on one of the many sofas and start perusing. There is also a small garden out back if you want to work on your tan while you read. The average paperback costs approximately $15 (£7.50).
