Many of the accommodation choices in San Juan run along the beachfront strip in the Condado and Isla Verde areas just east of the city itself. Here you'll find a selection of larger resorts and smaller hotels along with trendy shopping, museums, art galleries and nightlife that includes casinos, restaurants and nightclubs.
By contrast, Old San Juan is a 500-year-old walled city filled with color, architecture and culture. Rich in history, Old San Juan offers a few bigger-name hotels and is home to the island's cruise-ship port. The winding cobblestone streets take visitors to the National Historic Site of El Morro, people-watching plazas, churches and fountains, as well as the area's wonderful galleries, shops and restaurants.
No matter if you choose to stay along the beach or in Old San Juan, each area is only minutes away from the other. Both are easily accessible by car or taxi, so you can see the best of both worlds.
