Ballajá Barracks

Description:

  • Famous for housing the Museo de las Americas, a free of charge museum featuring countless works of art and representations of the island's rich history and culture, the Cuartel de Ballajá (Ballajá Barracks) is also home to a dancing and music school, a library, an art shop, a small museum created by the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueño (cultural institute) and a history conservation office. One thousand Spanish families had occupied the building which was later used by the US Infantry. Today, tourists can discover this spectacle of Spanish architecture and wonder inside the walls and interior plaza of the Ballajá Barracks in Old San Juan.
