• The island's first big mall and still the largest in the Caribbean, Plaza, as it is known by locals, is a world unto itself. Even by U.S. standards, it's a remarkable place with top-name retailers, full-service restaurants, a Cineplex, two food courts, a bowling alley and disco, plus spa and hair stylists. Retail outlets include Macy's, Armani Exchange, Banana Republic, and Guess, as well as high-quality designer boutiques, with over 300 stores in all. There is also a U.S. Post Office, branches of all major island banks, and a full medical and office center. There are often shows and special events -- from boat and racecar exhibits to fashion shows and concerts -- taking place along its hallways. There's action from morning to night, and it's a quick trip from any San Juan hotel.
