- Also known as La Isla Nena or the 'Little Girl Island.' Located off the east coast of Puerto Rico, this 21-mile-long island remains largely undeveloped. The US Navy is in control of about 75% of the land, which has caused some controversy recently. However, there are hiking trails, beaches and a phosphorescent bay, which may be the most luminescent in the world. The island is a great place to escape the faster pace and tourist activity of Puerto Rico. Check with the tourist office regarding boat excursions that can transport you to the island.
