• The founding of the city of Sancti Spíritus is celebrated on June 4th. To further commemorate this important date, cultural promoters instituted the Premio de la Ciudad (City Award) in the categories of music, literature and art. The awards ceremony itself is simply a formality. During the week leading up to the event, musicians aspiring to win, descend upon the Casa de la Trova to perform. The Gallery Oscar Fernández Morera becomes the City's Exhibit Hall. The award winners in the category of literature ultimately have their work published by Ediciones Luminaria, Sancti Spíritus publishing house.
