La Pampa steakhouse is by far Santa Ana's finest restaurant and it serves what is likely to be one of the tastiest steaks you'll have in El Salvador. Opened in summer 2007, the restaurant is styled after and shares a menu with the well-known San Salvador steakhouse of the same name. You'll need a taxi and a few minutes to get here, but it's worth the trip. The modern, hacienda-style interior is elegant but comfortable, with tables far enough apart to allow for quiet conversation. Upstairs seating overlooks the main dining room and includes two, small outdoor terraces. The service is outstanding and on par with that at San Salvador's finest restaurants, with Spanish-speaking waiters able to explain the intricacies of the steaks and cuts. The menu offers 15 steak and sausage options along with fish and chicken dishes, but the specialty of the house is the 224-gram (8-oz.) entraña, or skirt-cut steak. Every large steak platter is served with salad, vegetables, potatoes, and a delicious beef consume.
