The Best of NileGuide
- Whether you want to schedule a fun day for the kiddies or you're looking to entertain the child within, Santa Barbara has a cache of lighthearted activities for a kid-friendly visit. The Santa Barbara Zoo is an obvious choice for the young and young at heart, with exotic exhibits, tasty treats, grassy knolls, and ocean views. For a mellow afternoon at the beach, complete with sandy dunes and a jungle gym, Carpinteria City Beach is family spot that's fun for all. At Stearns Wharf, candy shops, gift stores, food and drinks, low-flying pelicans, and fisherman casting lines into the sea are all draws for the kiddies. Nearby in the harbor, you'll find the Santa Barbara Sailing Center where you can charter boats for a sail, or smaller rowboats and other water toys for the whole family. In town, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art offers special programs for budding artists. Both the Old Mission Santa Barbara and the Santa Barbara County Courthouse are fun spots to check out a historical landmark, or to simply run and play in the grass and rose gardens. If gardens are your thing, kids can explore the imaginative grounds of Lotusland, as well as the ambling Santa Barbara Botanic Gardens. If you really want to get dirty and tire out the tykes, take a family hike to Inspiration Point...Just be sure to lookout for poison oak!
