- A good rule of thumb to find family friendly lodging in Santa Cruz is that the closer the hotel/motel is to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and area beaches, the better suited it is to meet the needs of your family. That doesn't mean, however, that there aren't quality family hotels/motels further from the water. This list will show you why. When it comes to affordable, comfortable accommodations that will please the whole family, the Torch Lite Inn wins hook, line, and sinkers. Taking the Number 1 spot was no easy feat, but as this is one of the top rated hotels in Santa Cruz by AAA, is close to many Santa Cruz attractions, and has a record of satisfying guests without breaking their budget, the Torch Lite takes the top spot on this list. A close second is the Pelican Point Inn on East Cliff, close to the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor. While it is on the East side of town, further than others on this list from the central hub of the city, Pelican Point takes its guests closer to some of the lesser known sites to be seen, such as Twin Lakes Beach and the Harbor. Providing its guests with the very best in modern amenities, Pelican Point will continue to please guests for years to come. Another family friendly hotel/motel that isn't adjacent to the beach is the Holiday Inn Express on Ocean Street. This new hotel is clean and comfortable, and even has a pool, perfect for occupying Junior while mom and dad relax, or work out in the on site fitness center. While further from most of the main attractions, getting out of the headache-inducing hustle and bustle of the downtown/Boardwalk scene will be a welcome reprieve for Holiday Express Inn guests.
