  • If you've come to the Land of Enchantment to live a little in the lap of luxury, you're in luck.

Nestled in the piƱon-studded foothills of the Sangre de Cristos just north of Santa Fe, Encantado Resort immerses its guests in the timeless rhythm of New Mexico comfort. Kiva-style fireplaces, sweeping mountain views, miles of hiking trails, combined with luxury and privacy are why guests such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Hilary Swank and Robert Redford count Encantado among their favorite stays. Praise includes AAA naming Encantado a four-star property, and Conde Nast Traveler including it on its 2009 Hot List for Top New Hotels around the globe.

Bishop's Lodge north of town, and La Posada de Santa Fe, a few blocks east of the Plaza, both offer full resort amenities. The restaurants and spas may be enjoyed by those not staying at the properties, as well. Ten Thousand Waves is mostly known as a spa, but has added cozy, Asian-themed rooms to ensure you're never far from bliss.

Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa is less than an hour south of Santa Fe near Bernalillo on the Santa Ana Pueblo, but is well-worth the drive; in fact, with all it offers, there's little reason to leave at all.

Loretto, Sunrise Springs and Buffalo Thunder all offer upscale accommodations, pools and spas. Casa de Estrellas is smaller, but it's well-appointed rooms, onsite Moroccan spa, and proximity to the Plaza help it compete with larger properties.

Rounding out our list is La Fonda de Santa Fe, right on the Plaza. It's not a luxury property per se (no spa), but its historic charm and position as the "living room of Santa Fe" make it a must-visit, even just for a drink on the rooftop terrace.
