Steps from the rail station, this budget bet in the heart of the city is ideal for those without transportation. The hotel has been a Santander tradition since 1923. The exterior may not be too enticing, but the atmosphere improves inside this family-operated inn. Although it's in a congested area, street noises seem at a minimum. The midsize guest rooms, well cared for and comfortably furnished, are often in the old-fashioned style of northern Spain, with glassed-in balconies and high ceilings. Breakfast is offered in a formal room with Queen Anne chairs and oak wainscoting.
