The Best of NileGuide
- Santiago is many cities rolled into one. Like to get out and about? Try Bellavista or Ñuñoa. Looking to relive your college days (in Spanish)? Check out Suecia. Love flea markets? Don't miss Persa Bio bio. Looking for treasures? Two antique malls will empty your pockets quicker than you can say " me lo llevo" (I'll take it). Art Santiago has more than a smattering of museums, including the Fine Arts Museum (Museo Bellas Artes) which gets many high-quality traveling exhibitions, from Warhol to Kandinsky. Public art abounds, in the form of exhibitions in various municipality buiildings, a peaceful sculpture park in Providencia, and many ornate churches. Hiking Santiago also has several semi-urban or easy-to-get-to hikes nearby, from climbing Cerro San Cristobal right in the city to taking a bus out to Parque Mahuida in the comuna (district) of La Reina, which connects to the larger " Sendero de Chile" (Chilean Trail). Classical Music Lovers of theater, opera, classical music and jazz will find more than enough to fill up their nights, with the Universidad de Chile's Theater and the National Theater as well as several independennt venues serving up nighttime entertainment. Concerts and bands A lively independent music scene fills up the night with sounds of Chilean rock, metal, folk and other indie sounds, and concerts and shows can cost as little as a couple of dollars. Other Assorted Activities There are also places to ice skate, go bowling, play mini golf and other childhood activities, including video arcades that even have pinball machines. If flying through the air is more your speed, ou can head up to Cajón de Maipo for parasailing, to the coast for kitesurfing, or up to Santa María de Manquehue to try mountainboarding!
