- These cabins are located in Cajon de Maipo, a forty minute drive up and out of Santiago heading roughly west out of the city. The Cascadas de Las Animas site is family owned and has quite a bit of untouched land, with cascading waterfalls (cascadas), unusually good opportunities for animal sightings (mostly birds) and lovely treed walks, with a profusion of wildflowers in the spring. This site is popular with foreigners and locals alike, as a respite spot out of the city for picnics or a weekend away, though the attached restaurant also rightfully attracts visitors on its own strengths. The Cascada de las Animas offer hiking, rock-climbing, rafting, bicycling, horsebackriding and fishing. A campsite and nine couple or family-sized cabins are on offer, and there are also six individual rooms for rent.
