NileGuide Expert tip:

Try the salmon and spinach to get all your vitamins and protein in one shot. Wash it down with a Chilean microbrew for the real Barrio Brasil experience.

Description:

In a sea of half-baked, boring and predictable empanadas, and restaurants with tinny music and no decor, Peperone in Barrio Brasil stands out. It has a homey decor, with tables made from old sewing machine tables, interesting and folksy art ont eh walls, and even an artistic menu on which the offerings are written.

There are several innovative empanadas on the list, with combinations of fillings including olives, basil, tomatoes and even salmon and crab. There are plain flour and wholemeal crusts and tehy heat the empanadas in a small (real) oven, so they are crispy and hot when you get them.

In addition, there is a very good micro brew selection, which changes periodically as the offer in Santiago changes. The restaurant is small and homey, and they have good quality speakers for the music and wil change it if you ask, but they usually have good usic playing, with Latin American crooners like Jorge Drexler being broadcast.
