Pousada do Francês

Description:

• Pick the right room and the Francês can be a pleasant pousada conveniently located in the residential section of the centro histórico. The four nicest and most spacious rooms, the Mirante rooms (nos. 26, 27, 28, and 29) are located on the top floor on the corners of the pousada, and feature small balconies with lovely views of the river or the old city, in addition to firm queen-size beds, tile floors, and a large work space and reasonably spacious bathroom. These should be your first choice. Other double rooms (called luxo) are a little less spacious, but still feature comfortable queen-size beds and clean functional bathrooms. These are an acceptable backup, but avoid the ground-floor (single-digit) doubles, which feature windows that open directly onto the sidewalk. Then there are the rooms with no windows at all (nos. 7, 8, 21, 22, and 23), which are definitely to be avoided. Beyond the rooms, this restored colonial mansion features a lobby bar and restaurant warm and rich in bric-a-brac.
