Description:
The origins of
feijoada, a traditional black beans-and-pork stew, are disputed, according to Bolinha's website. One camp traces the recipe back to Brazilian slaves, who found in
feijoada a use for oft-discarded pig parts. Another camp says the stew dates back to the Roman empire. Whatever the truth may be, Bolinha has been putting its own stamp on the plate's history since 1952.
Datafolha, one of Brazil's top polling institutes, recently named Bolinha as the premier
feijoada spot in Sao Paulo. The Brazilian favorite is traditionally served throughout the city on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but Bolinha prepares its savory specialty everyday. The restaurant even offers a Kosher version made with beef, and a cod-based avatar. The popularity of Bolinha's
feijoada also led its owners to launch a delivery operation, allowing fans to enjoy the dish
em casa.
Aside from
feijoada, Bolinha's menu is filled with options for carnivores and herbivores alike--from pasta and pizza to surf and turf.
