The Winter Festival is a must for classical music lovers!

Description:

Vila Capivari (or São Benedito as it is also known) is the main commercial district of Campos do Jordão, a favorite cold-season destination for Paulistanos.

E1evated 1,700km up in the Mantiquiera mountains (almost 200km from Sampa), Campos do Jordão is São Paulo's version of an Alpine village (save for the lack of snow). The town has acquired the nickname "Brazilian Switzerland" for its setting, climate, architecture and cuisine.

When the temperature drops to near freezing in June, July and August (average highs remain fairly mild), tourism here picks up intensely. More than 1 million people come to visit the shops, restaurants, bars and cultural venues, most of which are concentrated in and around Vila Capivari. The town's main attraction is the annual Winter Festival that fills Praça do Capivari with classical music and admirers of the genre.

In the downtown, guests can purchase fine chocolates, sip dark ales at the Baden Baden brewery or ride the Teleférico for a panoramic view from Morro do Elefante (Elephant Hill).

Plenty of pousadas (guest houses), chalets and hotels, many built in classic Germanic and Swiss styles, are available for weekend stays.

A virtual tour is available on the municipal government's website at /tourvirtual/.
