Housed in an historic building that dates back to 1913, the Gator Club, located at 1490 Main Street, Sarasota, features leading local bands and dancing. The mixed drinks are tasty and strong. The Gator Bar, however, comes with a variety of reviews. It has been described as having a "typical college bar atmosphere, minus the college age patrons" because it so often is frequented by (shudder) tourists and (gasp) even worse, some white haired seniors. A few patrons admit they enjoy this variety. Cigar smoking is permitted. One patron calls it a "biker bar" while another reviewer claims it is "sophisticated but not stuffy." It also is called "the best singles bar in Sarasota." There are pool tables and a comfortable lounge upstairs, All agree the music is very loud and it can be extremely crowded on Saturday nights. Which indicates it is a truly a popular Sarasota night spot.
