Just up the road from the Mote Aquarium, it is free and open from 5 a.m. until 11 p.m., the 84 acre Ken Thompson Park includes a impressive view of the Sarasota skyline. It offers benches in the sun or under shade trees, a snack bar, and the New Pass Fishing Pier if you choose to wet a line. The Sarasota Bay Walk provides a half mile boardwalk nature trail through the mangroves, There are sandy bayfront beaches.  For joggers and walkers paved paths wind through the park. Enjoy views of New Pass and Sarasota Bay. Bring a picnic lunch and select a table under a tree or pick a spot to put down a blanket near the water. Launch your boat or kayak for a day of paddling. There is a playground for your children or grandchildren, plus restrooms. Even a place to park your boat trailer. And if you have a dog, the park is pet friendly.
