In some ways, the name "Seattle Center" is misleading, as it's technically not in the center of the city. But when it comes to things to do in the Seattle Center in Lower Queen Anne, you won't need to go outside of a six block radius to find all the entertainment you want.
We'll start with the obvious - the iconic Space Needle, Seattle's futuristic tower and observation deck from the 1962 World's Fair. Yes, prices are steep. Yes, the view is spectacular. And if you're going to do something, do it right; go ahead and splurge on dinner at the Sky City restaurant on top and spend your money on great food plus the view.
The EMP-SFM is a two-in-one deal; one $15 ticket gets you access to two colorful and unique museums. The Experience Music Project takes you through the music timeline in Seattle from blues to grunge and features an interactive music rooms where kids and adults alike can rock out. The Sci-Fi Museum is filled with enough memorabilia to appease the greatest of geeks, from R2D2 and the Death Star to a life-size Terminator.
If you're looking for kid-friendly and educational things to do in Seattle Center, head into the Children's Museum, which offers hands-on exhibits that focus on science, culture and art. The Pacific Science Center is another excellent destination for families, with both permanent and temporary exhibitions year-round. And while you're there, catch a show at the laser dome, the planetarium or the IMAX theatre.
When you've exhausted all your Seattle Center options and it's time to head back downtown, there's one more iconic thing to do - the country's first monorail starts right in the center and, for the same price as the bus, takes you zooming toward Westlake Center with an aerial view of the city all the way.
