Things to Do Around Seattle

  • The Best of NileGuide
  • Outdoors, indoors, sporty, quiet, families, couples, wild singles...whatever type of fun you're looking for, Seattle has it in spades. From heading underground to soaring over land and sky, there are plenty of things to do in Seattle.

So the Space Needle's on your list...until you get there and see the line (and the price). Check out the view from Smith Tower in Pioneer Square; stunning panorama, beautiful building, rarely a wait and less than half the cost. And that's not all there is to do in Seattle's historical district. Head over to The Underground Tour to see "old Seattle" for yourself and learn all about how fires and poor plumbing led to the creation of the greatest city in the Pacific Northwest.

Puget Sound, Lake Union, Green Lake - if water sports is your thing, this is the place. The Center for Wooden Boats in Lake Union even allows you to rent antique wooden boats and take them out on the water. Washington State boasts the largest ferry system in the country, and between the ferries and the water taxis, getting to the destination can be just as fun as the destination itself.

Seattle is divided into several neighborhoods, each of which has its own personality and fun things to do. Belltown is nightlife central, and boasts the highest number of clubs, bars and restaurants per capita in the city. Capitol Hill and the University District aren't far behind, though each features a different vibe; Cap Hill a great place to catch local Seattle bands on the weekend, and as you would expect from the name, U-District is hopping with the college-aged and the want-to-be-college aged.

Queen Anne is a quiet, classy neighborhood, perfect for indie bookstore lovers, cute cafes and boutique art galleries. And Fremont is the wild step-child of the city, complete with naked body paint parades, trolls and anything and everything unexpected.

Looking for the culture and education only a good museum visit can offer? The Seattle Art Museum is world-renowned, the Museum of Flight is an amazing exhibition of the history of planes, and the Museum of the Mysteries offers a chilling look into Seattle's boot-leggin' past.
