Hiram M. Chittenden Locks (Ballard Locks)

Description:

  • Known among the locals as the Ballard Locks, this passage between the Sound and the Ship Canal is a great place to watch all kinds of boats docking or pulling out. If the season is right, salmon-watching is also popular around the fish ladder, the glass-paneled zone where salmon pass in between the fresh water of the canal and the salt water of the Sound.

The visitor center features a gift shop, a display on the history of the Locks and lots of books and brochures. Deadliest Catch fans also flock here, as several boats from the popular show are known to dock at the Locks.
