Description:

  • The Longmire Area lies in the southwestern corner of the park. The Nisqually River forms the main drainage through the area with Kautz Creek its major tributary in the area. The peaks and valleys within the Longmire area support many hiking trails and two backcountry camps.

The Longmire Complex includes an interpretive trail, the National Park Inn, Longmire Museum, Wilderness Information Center and historic Longmire Gas Station. This area is well known for the historic National Park Service structures built in the early Twentieth Century. It was initially settled and promoted by James Longmire who opened a resort here. The structures built by the Longmire Family lie across Longmire - Paradise Road from the complex along the Trail of Shadows.
