Description:
- The Lake Shore Trail begins on the north side of Coho Campground and travels mainly through a second growth forest, eventually looping back to the campground. The trail drops down to Scatter Creek and then climbs up to Beaver Flats, a beautiful area rich with Foxglove and Oxalis. The trail next takes a turn to the northwest, skirting around a high sand and gravel bank, then dropping down to the Wynoochee River (Use caution when the water level is high!). The trail continues directly across the river, cutting through a popular camp area and continuing straight back toward the woods. The trail crosses a number of old roads and can be a little confusing. It continues on the east side of the lake, climbing up and down easy grades through old growth forest, to the Wynoochee Dam. The trail continues across the dam and through the picnic area to Coho Campground.
Potable water and flush toilets are available at Coho Campground. From Coho there are opportunities for day hiking, camping, wildlife observation, bike riding, and bird watching in addition to the extended hike along the Lake Shore Loop.
