Top 10:

Historical Things to Do in Sedona

  • The Best of NileGuide
  • Whether you're seeking mystical transcendence amongst the red rocks, or just a serene Southwestern sojourn in one of the most scenic places on Earth, there are plenty of things to do in Sedona that will complement just about any travel agenda. Even if Sedona's famed energy vortexes hold no special appeal for you, the city easily lays claim to some of the best hiking, resort spas, restaurants, and shopping in Arizona.

No visit to Sedona would be complete without exploring the spectacular red rocks on foot. We recommend setting aside at least one day for hiking. Even if you don't think of yourself as the "outdoorsy type," there's no better way to experience Sedona's mild climate and rich biodiversity than by spending a good part of your visit outdoors.

Popular trails include the West Fork Trail in Oak Creek Canyon, Fay Canyon Trail in West Sedona, and the short but steep trail that takes you into the gaps of one of Sedona's most recognizable natural landmarks, Cathedral Rock. But our favorite Sedona hike is Boynton Canyon Trail, a scenic trek that leads you into one of the most popular box canyons in the Southwest. This is a very popular walk, but we're more than willing to sacrifice a little solitude in exchange for the outstanding scenery.

If your goal is to leave no Sedona stone unturned, continue your exploration by air with an early morning sunrise hot air balloon ride over the city. If that sounds a little too grand for your visit, book your seat on one of several commercial Sedona jeep tours instead, which take visitors on off-road adventures deep into Sedona and the surrounding region.

Of course, true believers (and curious visitors) will want to take the time to explore the city's energy vortexes -- natural areas said to contain special "power points" of energy that facilitate prayer and healing -- that have helped establish Sedona as the New Age capital of the Southwest.
