Description:
- Although used mainly for moving cattle from summer to winter range, this trail is used by hikers. It is well-constructed and offers access to the higher elevations of the Sycamore Canyon Wilderness. The trail ends at its junction with TR #52 and the rim above Sycamore Canyon. From points along this rim, the hiker or rider has panoramic views of the upper Verde Valley, Woodchute Mountain, the Sierra Prieta, and Granite Mountain.
For the first miles from Henderson Flat, the trail climbs gradually. From there to the rim, the climb is steep and rugged. This portion of the trail is well-maintained and well marked. Use caution in the ascent to the rim, it is rugged and steep. Take plenty of water and make frequent stops for rest.
The climb to the rim in the summer can be extremely hot. There is no drinking water on the trail. Fall and spring are recommended. The trail can be hiked in the winter depending on the conditions.
