Description:
- The main attraction of this trail is that it lies entirely within the Sycamore Canyon Wilderness. It can be used by both horseback riders and hikers. It is also only one of two trails (#52 and #117) in this area that can be reached from the Williams area without traveling to FR 181 just north of Perkinsville. The trail starts in open stands of Ponderosa pine and pinyon-juniper. The most scenic portion of the trail is also the most difficult, as it descends through a steep canyon through red rock bluffs.
The first three miles of the trail from the trailhead are fairly level and easy. The descent from there, however, is steep and difficult through the red rock cliffs. The final 1.5 miles is again on relatively level terrain in Sycamore Basin to the junction with TR #63. It is then possible to loop back to Henderson Flat by taking TR #63 south for about two miles to TR #53. Take TR # 53 west for 4.2 miles to Henderson Flat.
Keep in mind that there is no water along this trail. The lower portion of the trail in Sycamore Basin is at an elevation of only 4500 feet and can be extremely hot in summer with little air movement in the canyon.
