Jingwansa Temple

Description:

  • First built in 1101 during the Koryo Dynasty, this temple was rebuilt in 1403 in memory of Korea's founders. During the Korean War, the building was burnt down but later rebuilt again, this time by Buddhist nuns in 1964. Presently, 15 nuns live here. Inside the temple, there are living quarters and four small halls including the Kstitigarbha with all the judges, a shrine for the Bodhisattva who alleviates suffering in the nether regions. People come here to light lamps in memory of the departed. There is also a shrine for Amitabha, the deity of Pure Land Buddhism, with all the enlightened disciples.
