Description:
The main Catholic church in the country, Meyongdong Cathedral is a surprise -- a Gothic structure in the middle of Seoul. Construction on the building was started in 1892 and finished in 1898, on the spot where the first Catholics gathered in 1784. A structure of brick with stained glass, the basement floor houses the remains of the Korean Catholic martyrs. Masses are held daily, but an English-language service takes place Sundays at 9am.
