Locals and major Spanish gourmet books laud this restaurant, but we have our doubts. It began life as an unpretentious bar and bodega in 1954 and over the years has evolved into a bustling two-floor restaurant in a building a short walk from the cathedral. In an all-Andalusian decor, you can order such standard dishes as fish soup in the Andalusian style, lubina con naranjas (whitefish with Sevillana oranges), hake baked with strips of Serrano ham, and many kinds of fresh fish. The dessert list is long and very tempting. If you opt for a meal at Robles, by all means, avoid the street-level tapas bar, where a drunk or two might wander in during mealtime, where the toilets seem as open and available as something at the local bus station, and where, even if you opt for a seat near the busy restrooms, you'll be charged the same inflated prices (with service that's much worse) as in the grander and more formal dining room upstairs.
