Now that the Hongqiao Airport is linked to the city via the subway, transportation to and from the national airport has become so much quicker and easier. You can now grab a drink or have a wild night out anywhere in town that is within a reasonable distance of the subway. Take your suitcase out with you and jump on the last train to Hongqiao Airport, the city is at your fingertips!
If you start in the north-west and work touch you'll be primed for a short ride to the airport via cab or subway. Big Bamboo, Blue Frog and Malone's American Cafe are all men's favorites on Tongren Road, in Jing'An. You'll find big screens playing games from Europe and the US, pool tables, dart boards, and no frilly decorations or unnecessary hassle. These low-key sports bars/pubs are perfect for pre flight.
Heading south, Mao, Sasha's, Zapatas and O'Malley's are all in the French Concession and ready to be enjoyed at any hour of day or night. Mao is a club where dancing gets rowdiest around 1:00am. The other three establishments are owned by the same holding company and cater to the international man or woman in you. Sasha's is a colonial era, British eatery and watering hole while Zapatas gets crazy at night with dancing on the bar and free flow tequila when certain songs play. O'Malley's, the cliche Irish pub in the area, is a surprisingly calm atmosphere fit for the whole family.
For a cheaper night out, Bulldog, Window's Cafe and Full House offer more affordable dining and drinking. Before a flight out, this is a great selection of low key places to have a beer and grilled cheese before hitting the airways.
