The British are coming! The British are coming! In Shanghai, the British restaurant scene is expanding, and yet some of the classic staples around the city are already decidedly colonial and of the Queen.
Sasha's is a tradition in Shanghai, especially in summer when the open patio in the back of the colonial-era structure is open for business. You're served gin and tonics under green umbrellas while the shrubbery shades you from public view and any pollution, be it noise or traffic. In short, Sasha's is the quintessential British establishment.
For British pub food, head to the Bulldog, where the British love of football is not only apparent, but blatantly in your face. The over-the-top decor and music adds to the feeling that when you walk in the door you could be downtown London. The only drawback is the fact that the pub is located next to the American consulate, making this British flag in their backyard somewhat iconic.
