Top 10:

Downtown Shanghai Hotels

  • The Best of NileGuide
  • So you want to be centrally located in smack dab in the middle of the action! Well, luckily for you Shanghai is easy to navigate and has two distinct city centers. The old town lies to the West of the Huangpu River and is called Puxi (meaning, west of the river). The new town with all the business, sky scrapers and broad avenues is called Pudong (meaning, east of the river). Thus, you can be centrally located if you stay in the center of either of these parts of town.

This list is targeted for people who want to be in old Puxi. If you are in Shanghai on business you might want to look at the Pudong/Lujiazui hotels.

For central Puxi, look for a place near Tomorrow Square, People's Square, Jing'an or the Bund. All of these locations have something to offer and are only a few miles from each offer. For example, the Bund has some of the city's hottest elite bars and restaurants while Jing'an has more affordable shopping and dining options. Tomorrow Square and People's Square are the epicenter of Shanghai and have access to the Bund to the east and Jing'an and the French Concession to the west.

The hotels listed here offer a range of areas around Shanghai that have easy transportation options, rest on arteries to centers for shopping, dining and eating as well as have a certain charm and elegance of their own.
