  • Shanghai is an outdoors city. You can't enjoy much of what the Pearl of the Orient has to offer without spending a great deal of time walking outside or exploring the smaller towns on Shanghai's fringes. Get fresh air by heading to Hangzhou's famous West Lake, or a bit of greenery by enjoying the famous Gardens of Suzhou. Soak in the city's parks and preserves as well.

Hangzhou is a beautiful silk-centered town outside of Shanghai well known for the stunning views around West Lake. A day trip from Shanghai is a nice escape from the city to a whole new world.

The Bund is Shanghai's most famous attraction. You can stroll along the boardwalk and enjoy the fresh air by the river as well as the epic city views of Pudong. Should the urge arise, jump in a boat and wind your way up and down the rive on a Huangpu River Cruise.

SuZhou is a town outside of Shanghai famous for its lush gardens with bush sculptures, greenery abounding and even small pagodas to picnic in.

Stroll around Nanjing Road in central Shanghai enjoying the outdoors, well, as much outdoor and nature as you can get in the middle of China's most populated city. Taikang Road and Dagu Road are similarly great places to walk around outdoors absorbing the city by strolling through it.

To get into nature, head to one of Shanghai's many beautiful parks, the Wild Animal Park, JinJiang and the botanical gardens are all great places to get some fresh air, soak in some vitamin D and get your plant fixes without leaving the city.
