Shanghai Transfers

  • In Shanghai, you'll find transportation a breeze. Compared to many other large cities, Shanghai has moving masses of people to and fro in expert fashion as a top priority. It is, after all, China's largest city and home to the largest port as well as the world's largest bus network. So, when you arrive at the airport you definitely have options.

The Maglev is the world's fastest train and it will whisk you from Shanghai Pudong International Airport directly to downtown Pudong. From where the Maglev terminates, you'll find the subway easily accessible in the same structure, and buses and taxi stands await outside the building. It is, arguably, the fastest way to transfer into the city. The subway runs directly into the heart of Shanghai in Puxi as well as Lujiazui-- the Bund is right at your doorstep from there.

The Maglev travels at 500kph, making it the fastest train in the world as well as an amazingly fun ride. The telephone poles whisk by the windows so quickly your eyes don't have a chance to focus on them. Even if this were not the most efficient way to get to and from the airport it would be popular simply for the fun it affords.

The Psychedelic Tunnel, on the Bund, transfers you from the east to west bank and back again. You'll enjoy the ride and it is surprisingly an efficient way to cross the river when in a hurry to get to downtown Lujiazui or downtown Puxi.

The Huangpu River Cruises are also a decent way to traverse the river or simply get oriented to the city.

Hangzhou, Suzhou and ZhouZhuang are nearby cities with amazing transfer options. High speed trains link Hangzhou and Shanghai, making it a short 45 minute trip to the beautiful and stunning silk city. Suzhou is easily reached by train or bus while transfers to ZhouZhuang are available at the bus station.
