The Bund
The Bund, the section of Zhongshan Road which runs along the western bank of the Huangpu River, is Shanghai's greatest tourist attraction. Today this stretch of old banking headquarters and Art Deco buildings houses luxury fashion brands, five star dining and glamorous nightlife, all with fabulous views of the Pudong skyline. But the primary attraction, despite redevelopment along the interior, remains the startlingly beautiful skyline view of Pudong. At night, the lights in Pudong illuminate the sky, and strollers along the Bund have the best view of the nightly show. From here you can catch the Psychedelic Tourist Tunnel to Pudong, ride on one of the famous Hunagpu River Cruises, or dine at a world-renown restaurant like Laris, where celebrity chefs await tourists and locals alike. In a week-long stay in Shanghai, expect to return to the Bund several times, every trip is different because different peddlers, merchants and entertainment prowl the Bund on a nightly basis, only adding to the attraction's appeal.
From the northern end of the Bund you can walk down Nanjing Road towards many of Shanghai's premier hotels, or stay at the famous Peace Hotel along the Bund walkway. On the southern end of the Bund you can cross the street and walk 10 minutes to Yu Gardens, Shanghai's second most popular attraction.
