Zhabei District

On the north side of Suzhou Creek, Zhabei is not a major tourist destination but does contain Shanghai's main railway station. Convenient for those travelers looking to make trips out of Shanghai by train, be aware that the area round the train station is chaotic, at best, and home to crafty pick-pockets. .

The district is famous for its industrial fervor, and includes such giants as Shanghai Bell Alcatel, Royal Philips Electronics, and other electronics companies. Nicknamed the Silicon Valley of Shanghai, you'll find IT talent and computer geeks galore at the low priced, no-frills restaurants that dot the area and cater to the factory workers.

There is little reason to visit Zhabei, as all factories are closed to uninvited visitors, and the restaurant scene leaves much to be desired, even for a cheaper option. The train station on the fringes of Zhabei is the only real reason to visit the area unless you happen to work or live there.
