- If you're a movie fanatic and you're in the city in June, make your way over to the annual Shanghai International Film Festival. Conceived in 1993, it takes place at the Shanghai Film Art center. It is a platform for many independent filmmakers to showcase their latest projects, and for Asian directors to reach out to the Chinese market. Last year's award winning movies were 'The Shanghai Story', 'Evil', and Korean director Lee Byeong-Woo's 'The Untold Story'. The festival provides a fantastic opportunity to watch films not only from Asia, but from countries like Brazil, Russia, Australia, the US and Poland.
