Description:
- Valentine's Day, a religious holiday named after a Christian martyr is now celebrated as a romantic holiday. Couples express their love for one another mainly through cards and gifts and hence this is also known as a Hallmark Holiday. It has been as much of a commercial success in Shanghai as in any Western country. An antonym to this, is the Single's Awareness Day (SAD), a humorous event for those not romantically involved is held on the same day. A traditional festival, which is the Chinese version of this day, is the Night of the Sevens celebrated on the seventh day of the Lunar month.
