Hi. I`m a photography guide in Guilin, China, but I also spent some time in Shanghai. You can indeed go the Yuyuan garden, it is a beautiful, classical garden. Everybody goes to the Bund to shoot the Jinmao and the TV tower from across the water. The sight is famous for its night view as well as for its sunrise. The Bund is long and wide and there`s many local people around doing all kinds of activities ... You can also go to the other side to shoot from high up of one of those towers. The Jade Buddha temple is the most busy temple in town. You can go to Xintiandi to take pics in the bar area. Then I`d advise you to go to Zhouzhuang, a water village, 2 hours away from Shanghai. It is overrun by Chinese tour groups, but I`d still advise you to go there. Spend a night ! In the small streets you can see all kinds of traditional activities, although set up for tourists` eyes especially, still interesting. There`s many other villages like this around. If you`d prefer, you could go to Xitang which is a bit quiter. If you don`t have time, there`s also Zhujiajiao, inside Shanghai, with these kinds of views. Then go to Renmin Square, where the Shanghai museum is also located. Very interesting park. Nearby high-rise buildings! And in the evening go to nearby Nanjing Lu, a wide and long shopping street, a lot of lights, a lot of life. Between Nanning Square and the Yuyuan Garden there`s some old streets which haven`t been demolished yet and where the inhabitants are quite frustrated they don`t get to live in new appartments... My pics: http://www.backtonature.org.cn . Click `Photostacks` and then ~Shanghai~ and ~waterdorpen~ The language on my website is Dutch if you wonder. On Flickr my name is ~Guilin photo guide Backtonature~ You could add me to your contacts if you want ... If you wanna see more pics of the places I mentioned, just do a search for them on Flickr. Good luck and enjoy.

to Anton Sheker, Yes sadly the sky in Eastern China is 99/100 gray, best time to shoot pictures I think is the end of september..when the weather is dry and resonably confortable. For a change from High rises and the hectic Shanghai..make it down to Hangzhou, 1:30H by train from shanghai, beautiful hill side senaries with water chreeks, in the middle of tea plantations. Also very sudgestive if you are looking to shoot Temples...there are a bunch in hangzhou..all very well kept and on the right time of the day very uncrowded.

The best places will be Yu Garden, you will see many Chinese traditional buildings and clothes, etc. And the bund, the west side is the old style and you will see the most stylist CBD in east side.THere are a lot of things to enjoy :)

How long is the flight to Hainan?
Answered by Jacky Lin , Singapore City, Singapore
If you like Shanghai tradition, you should go to visit Yu Garden, Shanghai old lane, the bund and French Concession. If you like modern, absolutely go to Lu Jia Zhui...Best come to Shanghi in second half of Oct. or first half of Nov.

The best pictures i have seen of shanghai have been taken from lupu bridge. It's a bit of a hike, but well worth it.
entrance under the bridge on Puxi side.
To get to any of the water towns, it's a simple bus trip for around 150rmb (inculding entrance fees) from the Shanghai tourist bus station (at shanghai Staduim) my advice is to go to the watertowns and stay over one night. Pictures are stunning with all the red latents lit and reflecting in the water. Much better than during the day, too many tourists.
have fun!

Great Photos! I like your set for the water village. i noticed that they sky is gray in all your water village photos.. is the sky really like that or did you go on a bad day? i love the photo with the yellow sign with the river as the bacground. very lovely...
