Imperial Palace

Description:

  • The Imperial Palace is the jewel of Shenyang, visitors cannot afford to give a miss. Commissioned in 1625 by Nurhaci, the Manchu chieftan who consolidated the northern tribes to attack the Korean Joison Dynasty and Chinese Ming. After his death Nurhaci's descendants went on the create the Qing Dynsaty, a feat that would have been impossible without the momentum Nurhaci set in motion. The architecture and layout bear a striking resemblance to Beijing's famous Forbidden City, for which it is designed after. The smaller scale palace has 300 rooms and 20 yards and exhibits Manchu, Mongolian and Han architectural styles. Relics abound and include a famous tiger-veined double-edged sword used by Nurhaci. Indoor photography is prohibited. Admission cost is 50 CNY.
