  • The Singaporean population is predominantly Chinese, so it's no surprise that Chinese restaurants dominate the food scene here and are strongly represented on our list. Local restaurant chain Crystal Jade is one of Singapore's great success stories and now boasts countless restaurants across Asia. Crystal Jade Golden Palace is its flagship restaurant, dishing up some of the best dim sum in town and offers an elegant setting for a classy evening Cantonese meal. For a romantic al-fresco atmosphere then head up to One Rochester, to dine amongst the foliage at the converted black-and-white colonial bungalow of Min Jiang at One North. Their Peking Duck is what keeps its regulars heading back time again, prepared to a traditional Northern Chinese recipe, and not to be missed.

If it's curry you're hankering after, then you're also in luck. Nearly 10% of Singapore's population is Indian, so Indian restaurants are plentiful and competition is fierce. The Rang Mahal at the Pan Pacific hotel has long enjoyed the reputation as one of Singapore's most spectacular Indian restaurants, as has the Song of India, tucked away in a black-and-white colonial bungalow on Scotts Road.

Singapore is known as the gateway to Southeast Asia, and so Southeast Asian cuisine is understandably popular here. The Indochine chain rules the roost here, specialising in fusion Southeast Asian/French cuisine, with influence taken from around the region. Indochine Waterfront is their most stunning property, where you can dine alongside the river with the CBD skyscrapers towering above you.

For more dining with a view, look no further than Singapore's own celebrity chef Justin Quek's restaurant Sky on 57 atop the skypark of the Marina Bay Sands hotel complex, which showcases a delectable array of Modern Asian Cuisine. Also within the Marina Bay Sands complex, those with cash to burn can be wowed by Sydney's most famous chef Tetsuya Wakuda and his buzzworthy restaurant Waku Ghin, which dishes up innovative Japanese/European creations.
