When it comes to choosing a five-star restaurant in Singapore, you will be spoilt for choice. In a city that has become synonymous with affluence and expenditure, it is not surprising that most of Singapore's five-star restaurants can be found in the Marina Bay and Orchard Road areas, the most extravagant districts in town.
The recent opening of the Marina Bay Sands hotel not only got the international media buzzing about the rooftop pool, but it also attracted some of the world's most famous celebrity chefs, who have chosen Singapore as the location for their latest culinary ventures. As five-star is often associated with expense and reputation, our top three choices in the list reflect this, with fine-dining restaurants from chefs Tetsuya Wakuda, Santi Santamaria and Guy Savoy respectively.
Although perhaps not as worldly famous as his peers, Singapore chef Ignatius Chan is something of a local legend, and his first-class, innovative fusion restaurant, Iggy's, should not be missed by any self-respecting food aficionados visiting Singapore. Also in the Orchard Road area, you'll find perennial favourites Aoki – an intimate Japanese affair, and Les Amis – a French restaurant worthy of competing with the finest establishments in Paris.
For more of a local flavour, Crystal Jade Golden Palace (look beyond the fact that it's in a shopping mall) and Royal China at Raffles Hotel are both sensational choices for exquisite Chinese cuisine, from dim sum lunches to elaborate multi-course banquets.
